Joylessly Washing the Dishes
"You've discovered some way to make dishes shine!" Two women tell the hostess of a buffet dinner. They ignore the food and look at their reflections in a plate, glass and spoon. "Now I wash them the way you should, in Joy!" the hostess replies smugly, biting into a celery. Womens" dishwashing skills are deemed deficient unless the dishes gleam with their reflections. The images of the faces in the dishes have an unintentional psychological truth. The dim, distorted faces we see in reflected in the utensils show how consumer culture turns women into shadowy nonentities. This ad was made in 1968, when the nightly news was filled with images of the Vietnam War, civil rights marches, women's libbers and the onset of the counter-culture. But America at large still retreated into a fantasy parallel universe such as the one portrayed here.

Dull Commercial, But useful for stock footage
OK commercial, But it's really quite dull. However, It's great for stock footage, So I give it 4/5.

See Yourself shine!
A pretty standard commercial from the 60's about Joy, which was new then, and how you could see yourself (you know, a reflection?). As I was watching these, I was thinking to myself what a tough time they must've had to get the reflections without showing the cameras as well, so that has to be commended. Other then that, pretty average.
